nba cup finals – the tale of two teams

The New York Knicks’ Emirates NBA Cup Final success brought the franchise’s first silverware since their 1973 NBA Finals victory.

Their 12-1 run to start the final quarter was the first time since the opening quarter they held a lead – eventually outscoring Spurs 35-19.

Brunson – who scored 40 points in the semi-final – finished as MVP, with Anunoby top scorer.

Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 11 rebounds, with the winner’s 23 offensive rebounds being key to their success.

But it was a real all-round effort, with bench players Jordan Clarkson & Tyler Kolek contributing to the final quarter masterclass.

Mike Brown’s team are now 9-1 in their last 10 and sit second in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Next up for New York Knicks are a visit to Idiana Pacers, before facing Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden.

These games take place on December 19,20 & 21.

It all went wrong for San Antonio in the final quarter, where they let an 11-point lead slip.

Their inability to keep the Knicks off the offensive glass proved pivotal in their defeat.

Spurs sit fourth in the Western Conference – 7-3 in their last 10.

However, their young roster will take great confidence from downing Oklahoma City Thunder in the semi-finals, and have a bright future ahead.

They’ll face Washington Wizards home and away as well as a trip to Atlanta Hawks between Friday, December 19 – Monday, December 22.
